"Glee" Showdown - Gaga Wins?

brittnay-as-britneyImage Credit: Adam Rose/FoxLast night’s Glee rocked some dead-on Britney Spears recreations, but it wasn’t the slam-dunk I had hoped it would be. Part of me didn’t buy New Directions’ devotion to Spears — aren’t they a liiiitle young for her? “Baby One More Time” would have come out when they were in first grade or so — but mostly, the numbers just didn’t advance, explore, or heighten the storylines.
It didn’t hit like the Madonna episode, which brilliantly wove the songs into the narrative; the “Like a Virgin” number alone would put that episode at the top of my “most awesome” list.“Theatricality,” aka the Lady Gaga episode (even though it included some KISS songs, too), existed through this lens of Gaga-dom, a pop symbol of being your boldest self, even (or maybe especially) when that means not being like everyone else. That format led to one of strongest moments in the show’s history, between Kurt, his dad, and Finn — a moment that wouldn’t have resonated the same way without the elaborate Gaga conceit of the episode.
So “Britney/Brittany.” I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was just a glammed-up episode of Becoming, that MTV series from back in the day that helped a fan recreate his or her favorite music video. I like the Glee episodes that radically recontextualize the music, so this ep just didn’t do it for me. What about you, PopWatchers? Where does it rank against “The Power of Madonna” and “Theatricality”? Is “Britney/Brittany” in the Glee pantheon of excellence, or oops, did the show do it again?
I vote:
Rank it, PW nation.

Cher and Lady Gaga recording duet?

CherPOP diva Cher is reportedly planning to team up with Lady GaGa!

The music legend met the Poker Face singer backstage at the recent MTV Video Music Awards — and the pair have become firm friends.

Author Mark Bego — who has written two books about Cher — claims the musical duo have discussed working together.

“They are now like mother and daughter,” he told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“They both take their outlandish fashion sense dead seriously, both have a sense of humor about themselves, and they are both staunch gay rights activists.

“They’ve talked about performing in concert together — and perhaps even recording a duet.”

RedOne says the upcoming Born This Way is 'too good to talk about.'

By Jocelyn Vena (@)

Why will Lady Gaga's forthcoming Born This Way album "piss people off"?
Gaga's main man, producer and songwriter RedOne, thinks it might be because the album is all about the artist's liberation. "I think it's more of her freedom album. It's like freedom this album ... it's her album!" he told MTV News.
But trying to squeeze any more details out of the "Bad Romance" producer proved difficult. He remained tight-lipped about details, mostly because he feels the album, which Gaga has noted will veer toward bitter and political, isn't ready for everyday talk just yet.
"To be honest with you, I think that this album that she's making is too precious to talk about. When it comes out you'll hear and you'll make your choice," he said. "I think you're gonna love it. But I think it's too precious for me to talk about it. It's crazy."
RedOne said that as far as he knows there will be no Beyoncé-type collaborations on Born This Way. But he reiterated that he's always stepping up his game with each album.
"I said with everything I do I want to shock people. Honestly, it's like whatever I do, I always want to shock people sonically, lyrically with the writer, anything that's gonna get the reaction," he said. "And so when it comes to her album, I mean honestly, I really think it's too precious, it's too good to talk about. I don't want to talk about it at all. I just want to save it. I'll let her talk about it. It's her. It's her presenting Gaga. I'm the producer, but she's the artist.
"Whatever happens later is going to happen," he said about which of his tracks might make the final cut. "I can't say I'm doing this or I'm doing that. It's a surprise. I want to leave it like that."
